Cheshire Businessman Opens Dog Grooming Salon in Brook Street, Chester

AN AWARD-WINNING dog groomer hopes to mark the opening of his salon with success at Crufts.

Mike Wildman, of Woodacre Road, Ellesmere Port, has opened a dog grooming salon in Brook Street, Chester.

The 29-year-old is self-taught and has won awards at dog shows worldwide, including Crufts, which started yesterday at the NEC in Birmingham.

Mike said: "I've got about six dogs I've groomed for Crufts this year.

"I have several clients from as far away as Blackpool, Birmingham and Carlisle who come to me for show grooming.

"I started off 15 years ago as a junior handler and did work experience at various kennels just because I loved dogs. I learnt a lot from Sandy Platt at Charbonnel Cocker Spaniel Kennels.

"Since then I've won various awards and regularly sit on canine committees and judge dog shows around the world."

The former Chester Bishop's High School student, who specialises in showing German shepherds and cocker spaniels, relocated to Chester due to his expanding business.

He said: "I used to work from home but found I was running out of space so moved to Chester as it was a good location.

"Since I moved here a few weeks ago I've had about 50 new clients from recommendations to people just walking past the shop.
